Our class enjoyed participating in the play, "Hansel and Gretel".  It has been a week that was out of routine but very enjoyable.   I was very proud of the students for respectfully working through changes in schedules and routine.

The field trip to the coal mines has been put on the calendar.  We are hoping to make the trip with the Napoleon 5th graders on April 30th.  More details will be sent out at a later date.

War reports should be getting the finishing touches.  The students are presenting the reports as they finish.    I would like all reports done by March 8th but allow until the 15th to complete the project.  The last quarter will have the students learning the states and capitals.  We will get 10 states at a time each week.  Doesn't hurt to look on the Internet and play the games that help us remember.

We have lots of egg cartons!  Thanks!

    Have a great week!

Wow!  Another week completed.  It is becoming more and more important to stay on task as review of old skills is replaced by introduction of new skills.  Math is moving quickly now with the introduction of multiplying fractions and conversions.  I try to allow as much time as possible for students to work on assignments in class to allow the opportunity to ask questions if needed.  Math facts still seem be an obstacle for many.  There are many free programs to practice multiplying on the internet.  5 minutes a few times a week will make a big difference.

Students were asked to measure the "ocean" bottom this week. It takes organization and responsibility to the team to get the job done.  We had 4 examples of ocean bottoms to map.  The students needed to discovery a  strategy to accurately describe the ocean floor.  The conversation in the classroom was very interesting!

Friendship Day is on Thursday.  We don't have school on Thursday or Friday because of state wrestling so the students will celebrate on Wednesday.  We will make our bags at school to collect any valentines that will be shared.  I do want to remind you that if you are sending treats, please make sure they are peanut free.

Have a great weekend!  Keep an eye on the sky if you are traveling on Sunday!

Students created models of the earth in Science.  We talked about the layers and built a model to help us visualize what it would look like if we could cut the earth.  We will be discussing landforms in this chapter.
Monday will bring an open book Health test and hopefully wrap up another chapter in Social Studies.  The students have usernames and passwords to get a second chance to hear their Social Studies lessons read to them if they choose.  Let me know if you are having problems getting to this.
Last week we had another gift of crackers, thanks so much for the supply.  The students look forward to them.
I am saving egg cartons for an art project.  If you have extra laying around, the 5th graders would gladly take them off your hands!  Thanks.
    Have a great weekend!
